RYLEE'S GIFT - ASPERGER'S SYNDROME Documentary

56 Minutes English

RYLEE’S GIFT, ASPERGER’S SYNDROME is a video documentary that depicts Asperger’s Syndrome, as seen through a family’s experience of a child who has Asperger’s.  There are many videos on the market that discuss certain aspects of Asperger’s, but we’ve tried to make this documentary a “real life”, “tell it like it is” program, designed to help parents and teachers learn more about the topic, so they may help those children with Autism/Asperger’s.

An Interview with Jerry Newport

38 Minutes English

Jerry Newport’s complete interview was much too long to fit in the documentary, so we used his entire interview as a complete video.  Jerry tells about his life, his education, his “human relations” problems before he was diagnosed and in general, a lot of excellent information to let parents and teachers know that a diagnoses with AS is not a sentence, but a beginning.  He is the author of YOUR LIFE IS NOT A LABEL, AUTIM/ASPERGER’S SEXUALITY, PUBERTY AND BEYOND and soon to be released:  MOZART AND THE WHALE.  Jerry is in great demand as an international speaker on adult issues of Asperger’s and Autism.

An Interview with Lars Perner and Philip Brousseau

42 Minutes English

Dr. Perner, Associate Professor of Economics, San Diego State University was diagnosed later in life with Asperger's.  His interview contains interesting and enlightening experiences, so we made his complete interview into a video.  Dr. Perner writes extensively on AS and Autism and contributes his expertise to numerous ! seminars, conferences and conventions on AS and Autism.  Philip Brousseau is an articulate, intelligent and very informed individual, who has experienced Austism and Asperger's first-hand in his family and himself.  Philip is a high functioning Autistic and an active participant in the Tucson, Arizona Asperger's Support Group.  He provides insightful information about his own life experiences.

Free Appropriate Public Education - (FAPE)

26 Minutes English

This program was developed for school districts to understand the law and how to prevent lawsuits stemming from violation of this Federal Education Law. The topic "expert" is an attorney, S. Paul Prior, whose practice includes bringing litigation against school districts for violation of the law, related to children with disabilities. He uses his legal experience and knowledge to list the steps schools can take to avoid lawsuits.

We have learned that parents use this video and information to obtain Free and Appropriate Public Education for their child or children who happen to have disabilities. One of the primary mistakes schools make is not including parents in each step of the evaluation and classification of their children. Parents feel one way, schools the other and the next step is to get an attorney involved, which means both sides lose. Excellent program for both schools and parents.  If you’re having problems getting appropriate services for your child, this is an excellent guide.  We also have a free manual that is available free of charge for download.

Susie Rodde's Wheels Of Achievement

(English, 38 Minutes, Released January 2005, )
Although this video has nothing to do with AS, it is a motivational video for school age children and teens about their imagined trials and tribulations of growing up and going through a difficult life in school, with the hardships of having to do things they don't want to do, especially things required by their parents.  The motivation comes from Susie Rodde, a paraplegic, spastic, cerebral palsy disabled person, who is a bright and shining star among advocates for the disabled.  Susie was born with CP and has endured more that 79 major medical operations and procedures, yet she remains undaunted in her efforts to help others.  You'll hear from Susie, her relatives, former employer and some of the things she has done and is doing with her life.  After watching this video, it would be difficult for teens to think their problems are really problems after all.

Interviews with Ilise Feitshans - Disabilities

It would take three pages to list Ilise's accomplishments and education.  She is a lawyer, a public health official and mother of a gifted son.  She's been through all the "hoops" of the educational system with her son and provides valuable information about the law and disabilities.  She is a strong advocate for persons with disabilities.  She's an adjunct professor of Law at Cornell University, previous faculty member of Columbia University School of Law and has written legislation and supported many other disability and human rights causes.  Although Ilise is featured in only one segment of Rylee's Gift-Asperger's Syndrome, she discusses the law and disabilities in this video.  It is a compilation of her interviews in the forthcoming DISABILITIES documentary.  She discusses a range of information relating to persons with disabilities rights, education and much more.
